Olivia Dunham - Fringe

“Peter.”

“Peter.”

“I’m not who they say I am.”

All right. I feel like I don’t see nearly enough love for Olivia Dunham.

She is not only an extremely powerful female character, but how she’s represented never ceases to amaze me. Minimal makeup, professional manner, no one calls her a bitch, she doesn’t pine desperately after Peter. In fact, Peter pines for her. She saves Peter’s life more times than he saves hers, if we want to count.

Olivia’s flaws are real, that any male character has. She has empathy without being over emotional. Her clothing is appropriate, never oversexualized, and pretty much how I imagine any male dressing in her position. We see her here with her hair down, but frequently it’s up as well, her makeup remaining the same, never overdone.

Olivia Dunham is one of the strongest female characters in the media, IMHO. Both iterations. Even when Fauxlivia comes across, she sleeps with Peter not as a way of manipulating, but she makes HIM fall in LOVE with HER. Olivia Dunham could very well have been made a male character and nothing would have needed tweaking. She is a powerful woman who saves the lives of others and struggles with very real problems.

Olivia Dunham is my hero. Let’s make some noise about this.
